Home care marketing in Imperial Beach:
a direct mail plan for senior care

By Best Direct Mail, San Marcos · Numbers from USPS and the US Census Bureau

Imperial Beach is a small beach town at the far southwest corner of the country. Alongside young renters and military families, it has long-time residents who have watched the town change around them, many of them in the small houses and condos near the estuary and in the older streets east of 13th Street.

The whole city shares one ZIP Code, 91932, and it is small enough that an agency can mail a real share of it. Below we start with the public numbers for Imperial Beach, then go area by area: who lives there, what to offer and how to mail it. After that come home care versus assisted living, a year of mailings and what every senior care postcard in California should include.

What the columns tell you:

  • Residents 65 and 75 or older: where older adults make up the biggest share of the neighborhood, and so where EDDM® wastes the fewest cards. The need for daily help grows with age.
  • Seniors living alone: households of one person 65 or older. They are the people most likely to need help at home, and the ones whose families worry most.
  • Median household income: higher incomes point to private-pay, live-in and full-service care. Lower incomes point to clear hourly rates, short visits and the benefits you accept.

These figures cover whole ZIP Codes, and single routes inside them can be quite different. Our EDDM® route planner shows income, age and household size for every route before you choose.

Residents 65 and 75 or older, seniors living alone and income are US Census Bureau American Community Survey 5-year estimates for the ZIP Code area. Seniors living alone are one-person households of someone 65 or older.

What a mailing costs: $2,682 for 5,000 homes with our recommended 8.5 × 11 EDDM® postcard, including printing and postage. See our EDDM® prices for other quantities.

What to mail in each neighborhood

South Imperial Beach, near the estuary (91932)

South of Imperial Beach Boulevard, the streets run toward the Tijuana River estuary, with single-family homes, duplexes and condos. Many residents have lived here a long time, and many are retired.

  • What to offer: help that keeps people at home: meals, errands, housework and rides to appointments, plus more care after a hospital stay. A free in-home assessment is an easy first step.
  • How to mail: a mailing list filtered by age, since older residents share these blocks with young renters. EDDM® works on the routes that are mostly owner-occupied houses.

East Imperial Beach (91932)

East of 13th Street, toward the Tijuana River Valley, there are more single-family homes with yards and more owners who live in their homes. Long-time owners live next to families, so the grown children who help a parent are often on the same street or close by.

  • What to offer: a few hours a week of help, respite care for the family caregiver, and clear hourly rates. Say whether you accept long-term care insurance or veterans benefits.
  • How to mail: EDDM®. These are some of the most stable routes in the city and the best place for a steady monthly mailing.

Central Imperial Beach (91932)

Between the beach and 13th Street, most homes are small houses and duplexes from the 1950s and 60s, with apartments along the main streets. Some older owners have stayed since the early days, often living alone, and many households look closely at cost.

  • What to offer: short visits, a friendly check-in each week and rides to the doctor or the store. Spanish on the back of the card reaches more families here.
  • How to mail: EDDM® to the routes closest to your office, or a mailing list by age if you want older residents only.
Just like home, but with a little help: senior living postcard with a smiling older woman and a caregiver, a private tour offer, a move-in special and a free first month

North Imperial Beach, near the bay (91932)

Toward the bay and the start of the Silver Strand, the streets north of Palm Avenue have single-family homes, townhomes and condos. Many households are families, and some care for a parent who lives in town or in a nearby South Bay city.

  • What to offer: peace of mind for the family: updates after every visit, respite care and a tour or assessment the family can book in the evening or on a weekend.
  • Timing: before Thanksgiving, when families get together, and in January.
  • How to mail: EDDM® on the routes with the most single-family homes.

Home care or assisted living: who to mail in Imperial Beach

  • Home care agencies can mail every home on the routes they serve with EDDM®, or use a mailing list to reach households by age and how long they have lived in the home. Imperial Beach has many renters, so a list is often the cheaper way to reach older residents near the beach. The table above shows the share of older residents and seniors living alone in 91932.
  • Assisted living and memory care communities do best mailing every home within a few miles, since families want a parent close by. For a community in the South Bay, that usually means Imperial Beach plus nearby routes. Pick them in our EDDM® route planner and keep the card about the community itself.
  • Both should mail the same homes again and again. Families often take months to decide, and the card on the counter when they are ready is the one they call.

Mail also works well beyond homes. Doctors' offices, discharge planners at nearby hospitals and senior centers refer families every week, and a card or letter to them a few times a year keeps your name in mind. Ask us about a mailing to referral partners in Imperial Beach and the South Bay.

What every Imperial Beach senior care postcard should include

  • Your license number. Home care organizations and assisted living communities (Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly, or RCFEs) in California are licensed by the Department of Social Services. Showing the number tells families you are legitimate.
  • Who pays, said plainly. Medicare generally does not pay for ongoing non-medical help at home or for assisted living. Don't suggest that it does. Say whether you accept long-term care insurance or veterans benefits, if you do.
  • Offers spelled out: what a free assessment or a move-in special includes and when it ends.
  • For assisted living, describe the community, not the residents you want. Rooms, care, meals, activities and your location. Communities are housing, and fair housing rules apply to their advertising.
  • Large type and a phone number a person answers. Many readers are older, and many callers want to talk to someone right away.
  • Where you are in Imperial Beach, with a landmark people know and the areas you serve.

These are general points, not legal advice. Your licensing office or an attorney can confirm the exact wording, and we adjust any design to match.

Frequently asked questions

Where do older residents live in Imperial Beach?

Many long-time and retired residents live in south Imperial Beach near the estuary, and older owners are spread through the small houses of central and east Imperial Beach. The table above shows the share of residents 65 and 75 or older and the number of seniors living alone in 91932.

Should a home care agency use EDDM® or a mailing list in Imperial Beach?

EDDM® works on the routes that are mostly owner-occupied houses, especially east of 13th Street. Near the beach, where many homes are rentals, a mailing list filtered by age reaches older residents without paying for every door.

Can we mail all of Imperial Beach?

Yes. The whole city is one small ZIP Code, so an agency can cover it with a few mailings. Most start with the routes nearest the office and add the rest over the year.

How often should senior care postcards be mailed?

Every four to six weeks to the same homes. Families often take months to choose care, so being there again and again matters more than reaching a big area once.

Do you mail in Imperial Beach?

Yes. Our print shop is in San Marcos, and we mail EDDM® across San Diego County, so we print your postcards and take them to the Post Office that delivers Imperial Beach.
