Electrician direct mail in Carlsbad:
a neighborhood-by-neighborhood plan
By Best Direct Mail, San Marcos · Numbers from USPS, the US Census Bureau and the California DMV
Carlsbad has four ZIP Codes, and each one was built in a different era. The streets around the Village are the oldest, La Costa grew up in the 1970s and 80s, and Aviara, Poinsettia and Robertson Ranch are newer master-planned communities. Add high home values, many owners and one of the busiest business parks in North County, and Carlsbad has work for almost every kind of electrician.
The trick is sending the right card to the right part of town. Below is what we'd mail where, starting with the public numbers for each ZIP Code.
Carlsbad by ZIP Code
| ZIP Code | Homes (routes) | Built before 1980 | Owner-occupied | Median home value | New movers a month (average) | Electric cars |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 92008 Carlsbad Village, Olde Carlsbad and the Barrio | 12,731 (21) | 51% | 48% | $1,229,400 | about 196 | 1,850 (8% of cars) |
| 92009 La Costa and Rancho Carrillo | 16,715 (27) | 26% | 72% | $1,368,100 | about 135 | 4,265 (12% of cars) |
| 92010 Calavera Hills and Robertson Ranch | 7,412 (10) | 17% | 64% | $1,103,300 | about 100 | 1,425 (10% of cars) |
| 92011 Aviara and Poinsettia | 10,221 (14) | 17% | 64% | $1,302,600 | about 92 | 2,215 (11% of cars) |
Homes and carrier routes are from the USPS EDDM® route map. Home age, homeownership and home value are US Census Bureau American Community Survey 5-year estimates for the ZIP Code area. New movers are a US Census Bureau American Community Survey 5-year estimate: residents who moved into a different home in the past year, turned into households and divided by 12. Electric cars are battery-electric passenger vehicles registered with the California DMV as of January 1, 2026.
New movers: on average about 520 households move to a new home in these ZIP Codes every month. New owners often remodel, add chargers and fix what the inspection found in their first months.
What a mailing costs: $2,682 for 5,000 homes with our recommended 8.5 × 11 EDDM® postcard, including printing and postage. See our EDDM® prices for other quantities.
What to mail in each neighborhood
Carlsbad Village and Olde Carlsbad (92008)
West of El Camino Real, around the Village and Olde Carlsbad, are many of the city's oldest homes: beach cottages, mid-century ranch houses and a growing number of rebuilds. Original homes here are the most likely to need a bigger panel, and every remodel or rebuild needs an electrician.
- Panel upgrades and rewiring for original homes, with a set price for an inspection.
- ADUs and remodels, which usually need a bigger panel or a subpanel.
- Salt air. Near the beach, outdoor panels, meters and fixtures corrode faster, which makes a good message for the streets closest to the coast.
The Village and the streets near the coast have more rentals and condos, so a homeowner list works better there than whole routes.
La Costa (92009)
Much of La Costa was built in the 1970s and 80s around the resort and golf courses, with newer sections farther east. Homes from that era are now 40 to 50 years old, and their panels and wiring were sized for a very different house.
- Panel upgrades for homes adding an EV charger, heat pump or induction range.
- Lighting updates: recessed and LED lighting, outdoor and landscape lighting.
- EV chargers in the newer, family neighborhoods to the east.
Aviara and Poinsettia (92011)
South Carlsbad's Aviara and Poinsettia neighborhoods are mostly 1990s and 2000s homes, many of them large and high-value. The wiring is newer, so the work is about adding things:
- Home batteries for homes that already have solar, and the panel work that goes with them.
- EV chargers, often a second charger for a second electric car.
- Lighting design and smart home upgrades for remodels and outdoor living spaces.
Most homes here are owner-occupied, so EDDM® reaches nearly every household you want at a lower price than a list.
Calavera Hills and Robertson Ranch (92010)
In northeast Carlsbad, Calavera Hills has homes from the 1980s and 90s, and Robertson Ranch is one of the city's newest neighborhoods. Both are full of families, which makes them a good fit for:
- EV chargers, the easiest message for households adding an electric car.
- Panel upgrades in the older Calavera Hills homes.
- Smaller jobs that bring you in the door: ceiling fans, outlets, smoke detectors and surge protection.
The business parks (near Palomar Airport)
If you do commercial work, Carlsbad's business parks around McClellan-Palomar Airport hold thousands of offices, labs and light-industrial buildings. EDDM® can include business addresses, so you can mail only the routes in the business parks with a card for tenant improvements, lighting retrofits, EV chargers for parking lots and service contracts.
A first Carlsbad mailing plan
- Panel upgrades to the older neighborhoods. Mail an 8.5 × 11 EDDM® postcard to the older owner-occupied routes in Olde Carlsbad and La Costa. Pick the routes in our EDDM® route planner for 92008 or 92009.
- Batteries and EV chargers to the newer neighborhoods. Mail Aviara, Poinsettia and Robertson Ranch by EDDM® (92011, 92010), and use a 6 × 11 postcard to a homeowner list near the Village and the coast, so every card goes to a household that better fits the job.
- New movers every month. People who just bought a home in Carlsbad are about to remodel, add chargers and fix what the inspection found. A small monthly mailing to new movers keeps you first in line.
Mail each group at least three times, a few weeks apart. Use a different offer code on each card so you can see which neighborhood and which service brings the calls.
EDDM® or a mailing list in Carlsbad?
Which one is better depends on the neighborhood. In Aviara, Poinsettia, La Costa and Robertson Ranch, most homes are owner-occupied and EDDM® reaches nearly the same people for less. Around the Village and along the coast, where there are more condos, apartments and vacation rentals, a homeowner list wastes fewer cards. Compare the homeowner numbers in the table above, and tell us the areas you want and we'll recommend the right mix.
What to put on a Carlsbad postcard
- Say you're local. "Serving Carlsbad, La Costa and Aviara" tells people you know the area and can get there quickly.
- One service and one offer per card, matched to the neighborhood above.
- Your California contractor license number, which the law requires in advertising, plus "licensed and insured".
- A clean, high-quality design. In a high-value city, the card itself says a lot about the quality of your work.
