Electrician direct mail in Encinitas:
a neighborhood-by-neighborhood plan
By Best Direct Mail, San Marcos · Numbers from USPS, the US Census Bureau and the California DMV
Encinitas is a good city for an electrician to mail. Home values are among the highest in San Diego County, most homes are lived in by their owners, many houses are decades old, and electric cars are everywhere. That mix means steady demand for panel upgrades, EV chargers, remodel wiring and backup power.
But Encinitas isn't one market. A 1950s beach cottage in Leucadia, a 1980s tract home in New Encinitas and a custom home on an acre in Olivenhain need different things. Below is what we'd mail where, starting with the public numbers for each ZIP Code.
Encinitas by ZIP Code
| ZIP Code | Built before 1980 | Owner-occupied | Median home value | New movers a month (average) | Electric cars |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 92024 Old Encinitas, Leucadia, New Encinitas and Olivenhain | 47% | 67% | $1,612,000 | about 142 | 4,261 (10% of cars) |
| 92007 Cardiff-by-the-Sea | 61% | 62% | $2,000,000+ | about 36 | 823 (9% of cars) |
Home age, homeownership and home value are US Census Bureau American Community Survey 5-year estimates for the ZIP Code area. New movers are a US Census Bureau American Community Survey 5-year estimate: residents who moved into a different home in the past year, turned into households and divided by 12. Electric cars are battery-electric passenger vehicles registered with the California DMV as of January 1, 2026.
New movers: on average about 180 households move to a new home in these ZIP Codes every month. New owners often remodel, add chargers and fix what the inspection found in their first months.
What a mailing costs: $2,682 for 5,000 homes with our recommended 8.5 × 11 EDDM® postcard, including printing and postage. See our EDDM® prices for other quantities.
What to mail in each neighborhood
Old Encinitas and Leucadia (92024)
The streets west of I-5, from downtown up through Leucadia, have many of the city's oldest homes: beach cottages and mid-century houses, many of them remodeled more than once. Older homes like these are the most likely to still have small or original panels, and every remodel, kitchen or added bedroom raises the question of whether the panel can take more.
- Lead with panel upgrades and rewiring, with a set price for an inspection.
- ADUs and remodels. Encinitas has been encouraging accessory dwelling units, and a new ADU usually means a bigger panel or a subpanel. A card aimed at homeowners planning an ADU or remodel fits these streets.
- Salt air. Close to the ocean, outdoor panels, meters and light fixtures corrode faster. "Is your outdoor panel rusting?" is a message that lands near the coast.
Cardiff-by-the-Sea (92007)
Cardiff has its own ZIP Code, which makes it easy to mail on its own. It mixes older hillside homes with new rebuilds, and home values here are among the highest in the city. That points to the bigger jobs:
- EV chargers and the panel upgrades they need. Check the EV numbers above.
- Solar, home batteries and backup power, often together with a panel upgrade.
- Lighting design for remodels: recessed, landscape and outdoor living spaces.
New Encinitas (92024)
East of I-5, around El Camino Real and Encinitas Boulevard, most neighborhoods were built in the 1970s and 80s for families. Panels and wiring in homes that age are reaching the point where upgrades come up, and these are the households adding EV chargers, home offices and new appliances.
- EV chargers are the easiest message here. Many of these families already drive an electric car or are about to buy one, and each one needs a charger at home.
- Panel upgrades for homes adding a charger, heat pump or induction range.
- Smaller jobs that bring you in the door: ceiling fans, LED lighting, smoke detectors and surge protection.
Olivenhain (92024)
Olivenhain is semi-rural, with large lots, custom homes, horse properties and long driveways. The electrical work is bigger and more spread out:
- Backup power: generators, transfer switches and home batteries.
- Outbuildings: power to barns, workshops, detached garages and guest houses.
- EV chargers and landscape or security lighting across a large property.
Homes are farther apart, so a homeowner list filtered by home value can reach Olivenhain more precisely than whole carrier routes that also cover denser streets.
A first Encinitas mailing plan
- Panel upgrades to the older coastal streets. Mail an 8.5 × 11 EDDM® postcard to the routes west of I-5 in 92024 and to Cardiff in 92007. Pick the routes in our EDDM® route planner for 92024 or 92007.
- EV chargers to homeowners. Mail a 6 × 11 postcard to a homeowner list across Encinitas, filtered by home value, so every card goes to a household that better fits a charger and panel job.
- New movers every month. People who just bought a home in Encinitas are about to remodel, add chargers and fix what the inspection found. A small monthly mailing to new movers keeps you first in line.
Mail each group at least three times, a few weeks apart. Use a different offer code on each card so you can see which neighborhood and which service brings the calls.
EDDM® or a mailing list in Encinitas?
Which one is better depends on the neighborhood. Where most homes are owner-occupied, EDDM® reaches nearly the same people for less. Where there are more apartments and rentals, such as parts of downtown and along the 101, a homeowner list wastes fewer cards. Compare the homeowner numbers in the table above, and tell us the areas you want and we'll recommend the right mix.
What to put on an Encinitas postcard
- Say you're local. "Serving Encinitas, Leucadia, Cardiff and Olivenhain" tells people you know the area and aren't driving in from across the county.
- One service and one offer per card, matched to the neighborhood above.
- Your California contractor license number, which the law requires in advertising, plus "licensed and insured".
- A photo of you or your team. Homeowners here are letting someone into an expensive home.

Frequently asked questions
How many homes are there to mail in Encinitas?
The table above shows the homes and carrier routes in each Encinitas ZIP Code, straight from the USPS EDDM® route map. Most electricians don't mail the whole city at once: they pick 2,500 to 5,000 homes in the neighborhoods that fit the service they want to sell.
Which Encinitas neighborhoods have the oldest homes?
The streets west of I-5 in Old Encinitas and Leucadia, and parts of Cardiff, have many of the oldest homes. New Encinitas was mostly built in the 1970s and 80s. The table shows the share of homes built before 1980 in each ZIP Code.
Where should I mail EV charger postcards in Encinitas?
Everywhere homeowners have a driveway or garage, but the best returns usually come from owner-occupied, higher-value neighborhoods. A homeowner list filtered by home value is the most precise way to reach them.
