Electrician direct mail in National City:
a neighborhood-by-neighborhood plan
By Best Direct Mail, San Marcos · Numbers from USPS, the US Census Bureau and the California DMV
National City is one of the oldest cities in San Diego County, next to the Navy base on the bay. Its housing is among the oldest in the county too, from Victorian homes near downtown to 1950s houses on the east side. Many homes are rented, and the city has a large business community.
The city shares one main ZIP Code, 91950, so planning is simple, but the work and the right way to mail it change from neighborhood to neighborhood. Below is what we'd mail where, starting with the public numbers for National City.
National City by ZIP Code
| ZIP Code | Built before 1980 | Owner-occupied | Median home value | New movers a month (average) | Electric cars |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 91950 All of National City, plus Lincoln Acres | 72% | 36% | $612,200 | about 135 | 845 (2% of cars) |
Home age, homeownership and home value are US Census Bureau American Community Survey 5-year estimates for the ZIP Code area. New movers are a US Census Bureau American Community Survey 5-year estimate: residents who moved into a different home in the past year, turned into households and divided by 12. Electric cars are battery-electric passenger vehicles registered with the California DMV as of January 1, 2026.
New movers: on average about 130 households move to a new home in these ZIP Codes every month. New owners often remodel, add chargers and fix what the inspection found in their first months.
What a mailing costs: $2,682 for 5,000 homes with our recommended 8.5 × 11 EDDM® postcard, including printing and postage. See our EDDM® prices for other quantities.
What to mail in each neighborhood
Historic National City (91950)
Around downtown and Kimball Park, some streets have Victorian and early 1900s homes, along with bungalows from the 1920s through the 40s. Homes this old can still have knob-and-tube wiring and fuse boxes.
- Rewiring older homes, done carefully to protect original details.
- Fuse box and panel replacement, often asked for by insurance companies.
West National City (91950)
West of the freeway, toward the Navy base and the bay, there are many apartments, duplexes and rented homes, including military families. EDDM® here spends much of the mailing on renters.
Use a homeowner list to reach the owners, including landlords who live elsewhere, with a card for safety inspections, panel upgrades and service calls for rentals.
East National City and Lincoln Acres (91950)
East of the freeway, toward Paradise Hills and the unincorporated Lincoln Acres area, most homes are single-family houses from the 1940s through the 60s, with more owners and many families.
- Panel upgrades, with a set price for an inspection.
- Older panel brands. Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels were installed in many homes of this era. A card showing what they look like gets homeowners to check.
- ADU and garage conversion wiring, often with a new subpanel.
Businesses and the Mile of Cars (91950)
If you do commercial work, National City has auto dealers, shops, restaurants and industrial businesses near the waterfront. EDDM® can include business addresses, so you can mail only the business routes with a card for lighting retrofits, EV chargers for lots, sign and parking lot lighting and service contracts.
A first National City mailing plan
- Owners and landlords across the city. Mail a 6 × 11 postcard to a homeowner list, so every card goes to an owner, not a tenant. Lead with panel upgrades and safety inspections.
- Panel upgrades to the east side. Mail an 8.5 × 11 EDDM® postcard to the routes with the most homeowners. Pick them in our EDDM® route planner for 91950.
- Commercial work to the business routes. If you do it, a separate card to businesses along the Mile of Cars and the waterfront.
Mail each group at least three times, a few weeks apart. Use a different offer code on each card so you can see which neighborhood and which service brings the calls.
EDDM® or a mailing list in National City?
Which one is better depends on the neighborhood. National City has more renters than most cities in the county, so a homeowner list is usually the better start for residential work. On the east side, where more homes are owner-occupied, EDDM® reaches nearly the same people for less. Check the homeowner number in the table above, and tell us the areas you want and we'll recommend the right mix.
What to put on a National City postcard
- Say you're local. "Serving National City and the South Bay" tells people you know the area and can get there quickly.
- Consider a bilingual card. Many National City households speak Spanish at home. English on one side and Spanish on the other can reach both.
- Your California contractor license number, which the law requires in advertising, plus "licensed and insured".
- One service and one offer per card, matched to the neighborhood above.

Frequently asked questions
How many homes are there to mail in National City?
The table above shows the homes and carrier routes in 91950, straight from the USPS EDDM® route map. That ZIP Code also includes Lincoln Acres, a small unincorporated area on the east side.
How do I reach landlords in National City?
Use a homeowner list. It sends your postcard to the owner's mailing address, even when they live somewhere else, so landlords get your card instead of their tenants.
Should I mail in Spanish in National City?
It can help. Many National City households speak Spanish at home, and a bilingual card, with English on one side and Spanish on the other, reaches both without a second mailing.
Do you mail in National City?
Yes. We print from our shop in San Marcos and take EDDM® mailings to the Post Office that delivers your National City routes.
