Dental direct mail in Encinitas:
a new patient plan for dentists
By Best Direct Mail, San Marcos · Numbers from USPS and the US Census Bureau
Encinitas is five communities in one city, and each one fills a dental chair differently. Young adults rent cottages and apartments near the 101 in Leucadia and Old Encinitas. Families fill the greenbelts of Village Park and the newer homes of Encinitas Ranch. Long-time owners in Cardiff and Olivenhain have known their dentist for years, and many of them are ready for crowns, implants or a brighter smile.
Patients here expect a practice that looks and feels like their town, so a generic coupon card rarely stands out. Below we start with the public numbers for each ZIP Code, including how many new movers arrive in an average month, then go community by community: who lives there, which services fit and how to mail them. After that come a new movers plan, a year of mailings and what every dental postcard in California should include.

Encinitas by ZIP Code
| ZIP Code | Homes (routes) | Households with children | Median household income | New movers a month (average) | Residents 65 or older |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 92024 Old Encinitas, Leucadia, New Encinitas and Olivenhain | 21,422 (33) | 28% | $158,507 | about 142 | 20% |
| 92007 Cardiff-by-the-Sea | 4,716 (7) | 29% | $182,629 | about 36 | 18% |
What the columns tell you:
- Households with children: where a family practice, children's checkups and back-to-school cards will do best.
- Median household income: higher incomes point to cosmetic work, aligners and implants. Lower incomes point to clear prices, payment plans and the insurance you take.
- New movers a month: about how many households move to a new home in the ZIP Code in an average month. This is the size of your monthly new movers mailing.
- Residents 65 or older: where implant, denture and consultation cards belong.
These figures cover whole ZIP Codes, and single routes inside them can be quite different. Our EDDM® route planner shows income, age, household size and the share of families with children for every route before you choose.
Homes and carrier routes are from the USPS EDDM® route map. Households with children, income, new movers and residents 65 or older are US Census Bureau American Community Survey 5-year estimates for the ZIP Code area. New movers a month is the number of residents who moved into a different home in the past year, turned into households and divided by 12.
New movers: on average about 180 households move to a new home in these ZIP Codes every month. Many of them will be looking for a new dentist.
What a mailing costs: $2,682 for 5,000 homes with our recommended 8.5 × 11 EDDM® postcard, including printing and postage. See our EDDM® prices for other quantities.
What to mail in each neighborhood
Old Encinitas and Leucadia (92024)
West of Interstate 5, along the 101 from downtown up through Leucadia, beach cottages and mid-century homes mix with condos, apartments and duplexes. Many residents rent, many are young adults who surf, work in the shops and restaurants or commute up and down the coast, and people move in and out all year.
- What to offer: a simple new patient price, whitening, aligners and online booking. Early morning or lunchtime appointments suit people who work at the beach or in town.
- Timing: spring, before summer photos and weddings, is the best time for a whitening card.
- How to mail: new movers every month. With so many renters coming and going, the people who just arrived are the ones looking for a dentist. Add EDDM® on the routes east of the 101 that are mostly houses.

Cardiff-by-the-Sea (92007)
Cardiff has its own ZIP Code, with hillside homes above the ocean, older cottages near San Elijo Lagoon and a small-town feel around the restaurants on the 101. Long-time owners live next to families who bought in more recently, so the same street can hold a grandparent and a grade schooler.
- What to offer: care for every age in one practice: children's checkups for the young families, and crowns, implants and a free consultation for the long-time residents.
- How to mail: EDDM®. The whole community fits in a few routes, so mailing all of 92007 is simple and costs little.

Village Park and New Encinitas (92024)
East of the freeway, around El Camino Real and Encinitas Boulevard, New Encinitas was built mostly in the 1980s and 90s. Village Park, with its greenbelts and neighborhood school, is full of families, and the condos and townhomes along El Camino Real draw young couples and first-time buyers.
- What to offer: one practice for the whole family, children's cleanings and sealants, and the insurance plans you accept. Evening and Saturday hours matter to working parents.
- Timing: back-to-school checkups in July and August.
- How to mail: EDDM®. Most homes here are owner-occupied family homes, so mailing whole routes reaches nearly every household you want.

Encinitas Ranch (92024)
Planned in the 1990s around a public golf course, Encinitas Ranch has larger, newer homes in HOA neighborhoods, some with ocean views. Households here tend to have higher incomes, good dental insurance through work and a real interest in how their smile looks.
- What to offer: aligners for teens and adults, whitening and veneers, with a free consultation. Before and after photos of your own patients, used with permission, sell these services best.
- How to mail: EDDM® on the routes inside the Ranch. The homes are similar, the owners are similar, and the same card works on every street.

Olivenhain (92024)
Founded as a farming colony in the 1880s, Olivenhain is still semi-rural, with winding roads, horse trails and custom homes on large lots. Many owners have lived here for decades, incomes are high and residents are used to driving a few minutes for the services they want.
- What to offer: implants, crowns and cosmetic work, with a free consultation, and the technology that makes treatment easier, such as same-day crowns or 3D imaging if you have them.
- How to mail: a mailing list filtered by age or household income. Homes are spread out, and a list reaches the households you want without paying for routes that run into Rancho Santa Fe or Carlsbad.

New movers in Encinitas: a monthly mailing
Moving is one of the main reasons people change dentists. In Encinitas it happens every month, in the rentals near the 101, in the condos along El Camino Real and in families moving into Village Park and the Ranch. The table above shows about how many households move to a new home in each ZIP Code in an average month.
- Choose the area: the new movers within a few miles of your office, usually Encinitas plus the nearest parts of Carlsbad, Solana Beach and Rancho Santa Fe.
- Mail every month: each card reaches people within their first weeks in a new home, while they are still choosing a dentist.
- Make it a welcome: "Welcome to Encinitas", or to Cardiff or Leucadia, with your new patient offer, the insurance you take and how to book.
See how many new movers are on file around your office in our mailing list planner, or ask us for a monthly price. We print and mail them for you every month.

EDDM® or a mailing list in Encinitas?
It depends on the community and on the service you want to sell:
- EDDM® for Cardiff, Village Park, New Encinitas and Encinitas Ranch. These routes are mostly family homes, so for a general or family practice nearly every household is a possible patient. EDDM® reaches them all at the lowest cost per card.
- A mailing list for Olivenhain and for narrower services. Implants, cosmetic work or orthodontics fit only some households. A list filtered by age, income or children reaches them across the city, including the spread-out homes of Olivenhain.
- New movers every month, on top of either one, and especially near the 101, where renters come and go.
A year of dental mailings in Encinitas
| When | Who gets it | What the card says |
|---|---|---|
| Every month | New movers around your office | Welcome to the neighborhood, with your new patient offer, the insurance you take and your hours |
| January to February | The neighborhoods closest to your office | New year, new dental benefits: book your cleaning and exam |
| March to April | Higher-income neighborhoods | Whitening and cosmetic work before spring weddings, graduations and summer photos |
| July to August | Family neighborhoods | Back-to-school checkups and sealants for kids |
| September | Neighborhoods with many older residents | Implants, dentures and a free consultation |
| October to November | Your own patients, then the nearby neighborhoods | Use your dental benefits before they reset on January 1 |
You don't need every mailing. Most Encinitas practices start with the monthly new movers card and one neighborhood mailing, then add the others once they see which brings in patients. Our dental direct mail guide has more offer ideas for each one.

What every Encinitas dental postcard should include
- The dentist or practice name, so it is clear who is offering the service. Dental advertising in California must not be false or misleading.
- "Specialist" only for real specialists. An orthodontist or oral surgeon can say so. A general dentist who offers implants or aligners should describe the service without suggesting a specialty.
- Offers spelled out: what a new patient special includes, who it is for (new patients only, patients without insurance) and when it ends.
- No waived co-pays or deductibles as an offer. That can break dental plan contracts and insurance rules.
- The plans you accept, including Medi-Cal Dental if you take it. For many families it is the first thing they check.
- Where you are in Encinitas, with a landmark people know, your hours and whether you see children, evenings or Saturdays.
These are general points, not legal advice. Your dental association or a healthcare attorney can confirm the exact wording of your offer, and we adjust any design to match.

Frequently asked questions
How many new movers are there in Encinitas each month?
The table above shows about how many households move to a new home in 92024 and 92007 in an average month, from US Census Bureau estimates. It is a good guide to the size of a monthly new movers mailing. The exact count for the area around your office is in our mailing list planner.
Where should a family dentist mail in Encinitas?
Start with the routes closest to your office, then the family neighborhoods in the table: the ZIP Code areas with the most households with children. Village Park and New Encinitas are the easiest family areas to reach by EDDM®, and Cardiff can be mailed whole.
Where should I mail implant and denture postcards in Encinitas?
Olivenhain and the long-time owners of Cardiff, Leucadia and Old Encinitas are the best places to start. Because these residents are spread across the city, a mailing list filtered by age reaches them with fewer wasted cards than whole routes.
Can I mail just Cardiff or just Leucadia?
Yes. Cardiff has its own ZIP Code, 92007, so you can mail all of it by EDDM®. For Leucadia, Olivenhain or Old Encinitas, pick the carrier routes inside the community in our EDDM® route planner, or draw the area on a map with a mailing list.
Do you serve Encinitas?
Yes. Our print shop is in San Marcos, about 20 minutes inland, and we print and mail for dental practices across San Diego County, including Encinitas. We take EDDM® mailings to the Post Offices that deliver your routes.
