Dental direct mail in Scripps Ranch:
a new patient plan for dentists
By Best Direct Mail, San Marcos · Numbers from USPS and the US Census Bureau
Scripps Ranch is a community of the City of San Diego with a ZIP Code of its own, 92131, set around Lake Miramar east of the I-15 and just north of MCAS Miramar. It was built from about 1969 through the 2000s as family tracts under tall eucalyptus trees, and its well-regarded schools keep drawing families with children. Households here tend to have higher incomes and dental insurance through work.
For a dentist, that means a compact area with several kinds of patients: families in the tracts north of the lake, long-time residents on the original ranch streets, large homes in Stonebridge, and military households and young professionals in the condos. Below we start with the public numbers for 92131, including how many new movers arrive in an average month, then go area by area: who lives there, which services fit and how to mail them. After that come a new movers plan, a year of mailings and what every dental postcard in California should include.

Scripps Ranch by ZIP Code
| ZIP Code | Homes (routes) | Households with children | Median household income | New movers a month (average) | Residents 65 or older |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 92131 All of Scripps Ranch, from Lake Miramar to Miramar Ranch North and Stonebridge | 13,277 (22) | 38% | $185,256 | about 90 | 18% |
What the columns tell you:
- Households with children: where a family practice, children's checkups and back-to-school cards will do best.
- Median household income: higher incomes point to cosmetic work, aligners and implants. Lower incomes point to clear prices, payment plans and the insurance you take.
- New movers a month: about how many households move to a new home in the ZIP Code in an average month. This is the size of your monthly new movers mailing.
- Residents 65 or older: where implant, denture and consultation cards belong.
These figures cover whole ZIP Codes, and single routes inside them can be quite different. Our EDDM® route planner shows income, age, household size and the share of families with children for every route before you choose.
Homes and carrier routes are from the USPS EDDM® route map. Households with children, income, new movers and residents 65 or older are US Census Bureau American Community Survey 5-year estimates for the ZIP Code area. New movers a month is the number of residents who moved into a different home in the past year, turned into households and divided by 12.
New movers: on average about 90 households move to a new home in these ZIP Codes every month. Many of them will be looking for a new dentist.
What a mailing costs: $2,682 for 5,000 homes with our recommended 8.5 × 11 EDDM® postcard, including printing and postage. See our EDDM® prices for other quantities.
What to mail in each neighborhood
The original ranch streets near Lake Miramar (92131)
The first Scripps Ranch neighborhoods, south and west of Lake Miramar and around Evans Pond, were built from about 1969 through the 1970s. Many owners have lived here for decades, their children are grown, and they now need crowns, bridges or implants more than checkups for kids.
- What to offer: implants, crowns and replacing old fillings or bridges, with a free consultation, and whether you accept Medicare Advantage dental plans. Long-time residents value a dentist who explains the options and the costs plainly.
- Timing: September for an implant consultation card, and October and November for "use your benefits before they reset".
- How to mail: EDDM® on these routes, which are mostly single-family homes, or a list filtered by age if you want to reach only the older residents.

Miramar Ranch North and Scripps Ranch Villages (92131)
North of the lake, Miramar Ranch North and the Scripps Ranch Villages were built from the 1980s into the 2000s as family homes in HOA tracts, with parks and schools inside the neighborhoods. Many households have children at home, and parents often choose one practice for the whole family.
- What to offer: children's checkups and sealants, orthodontic screenings, sports mouthguards for school teams, and aligners or whitening for the parents. Early and late appointments matter to commuting parents.
- Timing: back-to-school checkups in July and August, and a mouthguard card before fall and spring sports seasons.
- How to mail: EDDM®. Nearly every home is a family that could be your patient, so whole routes are the cheapest way to reach them. Mail the same tracts several times a year rather than the whole ZIP Code once.

Stonebridge Estates (92131)
At the north end, Stonebridge Estates was built from the mid-2000s with large homes on bigger lots and plenty of open space. Households here have some of the highest incomes in the community and are willing to pay for cosmetic work and the newest treatments.
- What to offer: veneers, whitening, aligners for teens and adults, and implants, with a free consultation. Before and after photos of your own patients, used with permission, and a polished, well-printed card fit this area.
- Timing: March and April, before graduations, weddings and summer photos.
- How to mail: a mailing list filtered by household income, or EDDM® on the Stonebridge routes alone, so the card is not spread across the whole ZIP Code.

Condos and townhomes (92131)
Scripps Ranch also has condo and townhome communities, some of them near the business parks along the I-15. They are the most affordable homes in the community, and many are rented to young professionals, couples without children and military households. People move in and out more often here than anywhere else in 92131.
- What to offer: a simple new patient price, whitening, online booking and appointments before or after work.
- How to mail: new movers every month rather than whole routes. The people who just arrived are the ones looking for a dentist.

Military households near MCAS Miramar (92131)
Marine Corps Air Station Miramar is just south of Scripps Ranch, and some households here are Marines, sailors or civilians who work on base. Service members usually get dental care on base, but their spouses and children choose a civilian dentist, and they choose again every time orders bring them to a new home.
- What to offer: whether you accept the TRICARE Dental Program, children seen, and a quick first appointment for families who just arrived. A practice that makes a move easier is remembered.
- Timing: summer, when many military families move between school years.
- How to mail: new movers every month. Military families arrive all year, and a welcome card reaches them in their first weeks.

New movers in Scripps Ranch: a monthly mailing
Moving is one of the main reasons people change dentists. In Scripps Ranch that happens every month: families buying into the tracts for the schools, people relocating for jobs in the business parks and Sorrento Valley, and military families arriving with orders for Miramar. The table above shows about how many households move to a new home in 92131 in an average month.
- Choose the area: the new movers within a few miles of your office, usually Scripps Ranch plus the nearest parts of Mira Mesa, Poway and Miramar.
- Mail every month: each card reaches people within their first weeks in a new home, while they are still choosing.
- Make it a welcome: "Welcome to Scripps Ranch" with your new patient offer, the insurance you take and how to book.

EDDM® or a mailing list in Scripps Ranch?
It depends on how many of the homes on a route could become your patients:
- EDDM® for the tracts around your office. Almost every household needs a dentist, and most Scripps Ranch routes are family homes, so for a general or family practice most homes nearby are possible patients. EDDM® reaches them all at the lowest cost per card.
- A mailing list for a narrower service. Implants, cosmetic work or orthodontics fit only some households. A list filtered by age, income or children reaches them across 92131 without paying for every home in between.
- New movers every month, on top of either one, for the condos and the military families.

What every Scripps Ranch dental postcard should include
- The dentist or practice name, so it is clear who is offering the service. Dental advertising in California must not be false or misleading.
- "Specialist" only for real specialists. An orthodontist or oral surgeon can say so. A general dentist who offers implants or aligners should describe the service without suggesting a specialty.
- Offers spelled out: what a new patient special includes, who it is for (new patients only, patients without insurance) and when it ends.
- No waived co-pays or deductibles as an offer. That can break dental plan contracts and insurance rules.
- The plans you accept, including Medi-Cal Dental if you take it. For many families it is the first thing they check.
- Where you are in Scripps Ranch, with a landmark people know, your hours and whether you see children, evenings or Saturdays.
These are general points, not legal advice. Your dental association or a healthcare attorney can confirm the exact wording of your offer, and we adjust any design to match.
