Dental direct mail in Point Loma:
a new patient plan for dentists
By Best Direct Mail, San Marcos · Numbers from USPS and the US Census Bureau
Point Loma is the peninsula between San Diego Bay and the ocean, and its two ZIP Codes hold very different patients. In 92106, long-time families in La Playa and the Wooded Area live a few minutes from Navy families and young households at Liberty Station. In 92107, Ocean Beach is beach cottages and apartments full of young renters, while Point Loma Heights and Sunset Cliffs climb the hill toward Point Loma Nazarene University.
Residents here tend to stay on the peninsula and choose a dentist they can reach without crossing the city, so a nearby practice with the right message has an advantage. Below we start with the public numbers for each ZIP Code, including how many new movers arrive in an average month, then go neighborhood by neighborhood: who lives there, which services fit and how to mail them. After that come a new movers plan, a year of mailings, what it costs and what every dental postcard in California should include.

Point Loma by ZIP Code
| ZIP Code | Homes (routes) | Households with children | Median household income | New movers a month (average) | Residents 65 or older |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 92106 Point Loma: La Playa, the Wooded Area, Roseville, Fleetridge, Loma Portal and Liberty Station | 8,138 (20) | 26% | $142,897 | about 129 | 20% |
| 92107 Ocean Beach, Point Loma Heights and Sunset Cliffs | 12,338 (22) | 17% | $113,117 | about 182 | 15% |
What the columns tell you:
- Households with children: where a family practice, children's checkups and back-to-school cards will do best.
- Median household income: higher incomes point to cosmetic work, aligners and implants. Lower incomes point to clear prices, payment plans and the insurance you take.
- New movers a month: about how many households move to a new home in the ZIP Code in an average month. This is the size of your monthly new movers mailing.
- Residents 65 or older: where implant, denture and consultation cards belong.
These figures cover whole ZIP Codes, and single routes inside them can be quite different. Our EDDM® route planner shows income, age, household size and the share of families with children for every route before you choose.
Homes and carrier routes are from the USPS EDDM® route map. Households with children, income, new movers and residents 65 or older are US Census Bureau American Community Survey 5-year estimates for the ZIP Code area. New movers a month is the number of residents who moved into a different home in the past year, turned into households and divided by 12.
New movers: on average about 310 households move to a new home in these ZIP Codes every month. Many of them will be looking for a new dentist.
What a mailing costs: $2,682 for 5,000 homes with our recommended 8.5 × 11 EDDM® postcard, including printing and postage. See our EDDM® prices for other quantities.
What to mail in each neighborhood
La Playa and Roseville, on the bay (92106)
Roseville is the oldest settled part of the peninsula, and La Playa, along the bay south of Shelter Island, has some of the most expensive homes in San Diego. Many families have lived here for generations, and households tend to have high incomes and high expectations.
- What to offer: cosmetic and restorative work: veneers, crowns, implants and whitening, with a private consultation. A calm, well-designed card says more here than a coupon.
- Timing: March and April for cosmetic work, before weddings and summer on the water.
- How to mail: EDDM® on the routes of houses, and a mailing list filtered by income near Shelter Island and the marinas, where condos and apartments mix in.

The Wooded Area and Fleetridge (92106)
On the hills above the bay, the Wooded Area has large lots, old trees and no sidewalks, and Fleetridge has 1950s custom homes along curving streets with views of the bay. Many owners bought decades ago and are now retired or close to it, often with children and grandchildren nearby.
- What to offer: implants, crowns and dentures with a free consultation, and whether you accept Medicare Advantage dental plans. A card that also welcomes the grandchildren fits families who see each other often.
- Timing: September for an implant consultation card, then a benefits reminder in October and November.
- How to mail: EDDM®. Most homes here are lived in by their owners, and the routes are small because the lots are large.

Loma Portal (92106)
North of Nimitz Boulevard, between Rosecrans Street and the hills, Loma Portal has older homes on hilly streets under the airport's takeoff path. Prices are often lower than in the rest of Point Loma, so it is where many young families first buy on the peninsula.
- What to offer: children seen, one practice for the whole family and Saturday hours. Say which plans you accept: many parents here have insurance through work.
- Timing: back-to-school checkups in July and August.
- How to mail: EDDM® on the routes of houses. Compare them in the EDDM® route planner for 92106.

Liberty Station (92106)
The former Naval Training Center is now Liberty Station, with shops, offices, schools, a large park on the water and a newer neighborhood of houses, row homes and townhomes. Next to it, Navy family housing brings military families who arrive and leave with each set of orders.
- What to offer: a family card with a clear new patient offer. Many military family members have the TRICARE Dental Program, so if you are in its network, say so. Working parents in the townhomes value early and evening appointments.
- How to mail: EDDM® on the routes around Liberty Station, which reach both the owners and the Navy housing, plus new movers every month.

Point Loma Heights and Sunset Cliffs (92107)
On the ocean side, Point Loma Heights climbs from Ocean Beach toward Point Loma Nazarene University, with older homes, rebuilds and ocean views. Sunset Cliffs runs along the bluffs to the south, with larger homes. Professionals and couples live next to students and faculty near the university.
- What to offer: whitening, aligners and veneers with a free consultation for the professionals, and a simple new patient price for students near the campus.
- How to mail: EDDM® on the streets of houses higher up, starting with the routes with the highest incomes in the table above, and new movers near the university, where people move every school year.

Ocean Beach (92107)
Ocean Beach is small beach cottages, duplexes and apartments on narrow lots, and it still feels like a beach town. Most residents rent, many are young adults, and people move in and out often.
- What to offer: a simple new patient price, emergency and same-week visits, and clear prices for patients without insurance. Keep the card friendly and plain.
- How to mail: EDDM® on the routes nearest your office, plus new movers every month. Renters need a dentist too, so whole routes work well for a general practice.

New movers in Point Loma: a monthly mailing
Moving is one of the main reasons people change dentists. On the peninsula that means Navy families arriving with orders, students and young renters in Ocean Beach and near the university, and families buying their first home in Loma Portal. The table above shows about how many households move to a new home in each ZIP Code in an average month.
- Choose the area: the new movers within a few miles of your office, usually 92106 and 92107 together, since residents cross the peninsula easily.
- Mail every month: each card reaches people within their first weeks in a new home, while they are still choosing.
- Make it a welcome: "Welcome to Point Loma" or "Welcome to OB" with your new patient offer, the insurance you take and how to book.
See how many new movers are on file around your office in our mailing list planner, or ask us for a monthly price. We print and mail them for you every month.

EDDM® or a mailing list in Point Loma?
It depends on how many of the homes on a route could become your patients:
- EDDM® for the neighborhoods around your office. Almost every household needs a dentist, so for a general or family practice most homes nearby are possible patients, renters included. EDDM® reaches them all at the lowest cost per card.
- A mailing list for a narrower service. Cosmetic work and implants fit only some households. A list filtered by income or age reaches La Playa, Fleetridge and Sunset Cliffs without paying for the apartments of Ocean Beach.
- New movers every month, on top of either one.
A year of dental mailings in Point Loma
| When | Who gets it | What the card says |
|---|---|---|
| Every month | New movers around your office | Welcome to the neighborhood, with your new patient offer, the insurance you take and your hours |
| January to February | The neighborhoods closest to your office | New year, new dental benefits: book your cleaning and exam |
| March to April | Higher-income neighborhoods | Whitening and cosmetic work before spring weddings, graduations and summer photos |
| July to August | Family neighborhoods | Back-to-school checkups and sealants for kids |
| September | Neighborhoods with many older residents | Implants, dentures and a free consultation |
| October to November | Your own patients, then the nearby neighborhoods | Use your dental benefits before they reset on January 1 |
You don't need every mailing. Most Point Loma practices start with the monthly new movers card and one neighborhood mailing, then add the others once they see which brings in patients. Our dental direct mail guide has more offer ideas for each one.

What every Point Loma dental postcard should include
- The dentist or practice name, so it is clear who is offering the service. Dental advertising in California must not be false or misleading.
- "Specialist" only for real specialists. An orthodontist or oral surgeon can say so. A general dentist who offers implants or aligners should describe the service without suggesting a specialty.
- Offers spelled out: what a new patient special includes, who it is for (new patients only, patients without insurance) and when it ends.
- No waived co-pays or deductibles as an offer. That can break dental plan contracts and insurance rules.
- The plans you accept, including Medi-Cal Dental if you take it. For many families it is the first thing they check.
- Where you are in Point Loma, with a landmark people know, your hours and whether you see children, evenings or Saturdays.
These are general points, not legal advice. Your dental association or a healthcare attorney can confirm the exact wording of your offer, and we adjust any design to match.

Frequently asked questions
How many new movers are there in Point Loma each month?
The table above shows about how many households move to a new home in 92106 and 92107 in an average month, from US Census Bureau estimates. It is a good guide to the size of a monthly new movers mailing. The exact count for the area around your office is in our mailing list planner.
Where should a family dentist mail in Point Loma?
Start with the routes closest to your office, then Loma Portal and Liberty Station, where more young families live. Both are easy to reach by EDDM®.
Where should I mail implant and denture postcards in Point Loma?
The Wooded Area and Fleetridge have many long-time owners and small routes, so EDDM® works well there. To reach older adults elsewhere on the peninsula, use a mailing list filtered by age.
How do I reach Navy families in Point Loma?
Mail new movers every month, since Navy families need a dentist soon after they arrive, and add EDDM® on the routes around Liberty Station and the Navy housing. If you are in the network for the TRICARE Dental Program, say so on the card.
Do you serve Point Loma?
Yes. Our print shop is in San Marcos, and we print and mail for dental practices across San Diego County, including Point Loma and Ocean Beach. We take EDDM® mailings to the Post Offices that deliver your routes.
