Dental direct mail in Poway:
a new patient plan for dentists
By Best Direct Mail, San Marcos · Numbers from USPS and the US Census Bureau
Poway calls itself "The City in the Country": family tracts, one-acre lots, horse properties and miles of trails, all in one ZIP Code. Families move here for the schools and stay for years, and many of the people who bought the first ranch homes in the 1960s and 70s still live in them. Most homes are lived in by their owners, and household incomes are comfortable.
That makes Poway a city of loyal patients. People don't change dentists often here, so a new practice wins them when they move in, when their children need braces, or when they need work their current dentist doesn't do. Below we start with the public numbers for 92064, including how many new movers arrive in an average month, then go neighborhood by neighborhood: who lives there, which services fit and how to mail them. After that come a new movers plan, a year of mailings, what it costs and what every dental postcard in California should include.

Poway by ZIP Code
| ZIP Code | Homes (routes) | Households with children | Median household income | New movers a month (average) | Residents 65 or older |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 92064 All of Poway, from Old Poway to the rural east | 17,267 (34) | 36% | $148,673 | about 115 | 19% |
What the columns tell you:
- Households with children: where a family practice, children's checkups and back-to-school cards will do best.
- Median household income: higher incomes point to cosmetic work, aligners and implants. Lower incomes point to clear prices, payment plans and the insurance you take.
- New movers a month: about how many households move to a new home in the ZIP Code in an average month. This is the size of your monthly new movers mailing.
- Residents 65 or older: where implant, denture and consultation cards belong.
These figures cover whole ZIP Codes, and single routes inside them can be quite different. Our EDDM® route planner shows income, age, household size and the share of families with children for every route before you choose.
Homes and carrier routes are from the USPS EDDM® route map. Households with children, income, new movers and residents 65 or older are US Census Bureau American Community Survey 5-year estimates for the ZIP Code area. New movers a month is the number of residents who moved into a different home in the past year, turned into households and divided by 12.
New movers: on average about 120 households move to a new home in these ZIP Codes every month. Many of them will be looking for a new dentist.
What a mailing costs: $2,682 for 5,000 homes with our recommended 8.5 × 11 EDDM® postcard, including printing and postage. See our EDDM® prices for other quantities.
What to mail in each neighborhood
West and south Poway family tracts (92064)
Along Pomerado Road and toward Rancho Bernardo and Scripps Ranch, tracts from the 1970s through the 90s fill the gentler land, close to schools and parks. These are Poway's busiest family neighborhoods, with many children at home and most parents insured through work.
- What to offer: one practice for the whole family, children's checkups and sealants, orthodontic or aligner consultations for teens, and evening or Saturday hours.
- Timing: back-to-school checkups in July and August, and "use your benefits before they reset" in October and November.
- How to mail: EDDM®. Most homes here are families who could be your patients, so whole routes are the cheapest way to reach them. Compare routes in the EDDM® route planner for 92064.

Old Poway and central Poway (92064)
Around Poway Road, Midland Road and Old Poway Park, the city's first subdivisions have single-story ranch homes from the 1960s and 70s on generous lots, with some apartments near the commercial streets. Many residents are the original buyers, now retired, and they have kept the same dentist for decades.
- What to offer: implants, dentures and crowns with a free consultation, and whether you accept Medicare Advantage dental plans. Comfort and modern technology appeal to patients who have put off work for years.
- Timing: September for an implant consultation card, before the holidays and the year-end benefit rush.
- How to mail: EDDM® on the residential routes around Old Poway, or a mailing list of older adults across the city.

Green Valley, Valle Verde and the rural east (92064)
Green Valley and the streets along Valle Verde Road have large homes on lots of about an acre, and out toward Old Coach Road and Iron Mountain are horse properties and custom estates. Households here tend to have higher incomes, many are empty nesters, and they choose a dentist for quality rather than price.
- What to offer: veneers, whitening, implants and crowns, with a free consultation. Before and after photos of your own patients, used with permission, sell these services best.
- Timing: March and April for cosmetic work, before weddings and graduations in the family.
- How to mail: EDDM® on the routes with the highest incomes in the table above. Rural routes have fewer homes, so they cost less to mail and reach almost only the households you want.

North Poway and Lake Poway (92064)
The northern edge of the city, toward Lake Poway and the Blue Sky Ecological Reserve, has larger family homes from the 1970s through the 90s, some rebuilt after the 2007 Witch Creek Fire. Families with teens and professionals who commute to Rancho Bernardo and Sorrento Valley live here.
- What to offer: family care with cosmetic options: aligners for teens and parents, whitening, and early or evening appointments for commuters.
- How to mail: EDDM® on the routes along the hills if your office is close, or a list filtered by children or income if you want these households across the north side.

Condos, townhomes and mobile home parks (92064)
Poway has a modest number of condo and townhome complexes, plus a few mobile home parks, including a senior community. These are some of the lowest-priced homes in the city, home to young adults starting out and to retirees on fixed incomes.
- What to offer: a clear new patient price, the plans you accept and dentures or repairs at a stated price. Patients here compare cost carefully.
- How to mail: EDDM® on the routes that serve the parks and complexes. They are compact, and a price-first card reaches every home at a low cost.

New movers in Poway: a monthly mailing
Moving is one of the main reasons people change dentists, and in Poway it is one of the few times they do. Families move in for the schools, and retirees move into smaller homes and senior communities. The table above shows about how many households move to a new home in 92064 in an average month.
- Choose the area: the new movers within a few miles of your office, usually Poway plus the nearest parts of Rancho Bernardo, Scripps Ranch and Sabre Springs.
- Mail every month: each card reaches people within their first weeks in a new home, while they are still choosing. In a city where patients stay for years, getting there first matters.
- Make it a welcome: "Welcome to Poway" with your new patient offer, the insurance you take and how to book.

EDDM® or a mailing list in Poway?
It depends on how many of the homes on a route could become your patients:
- EDDM® for the neighborhoods around your office. Poway's family tracts are mostly owner-occupied homes with families, so EDDM® wastes few cards for a general or family practice.
- A mailing list for a narrower service. Implants, cosmetic work or orthodontics fit only some households. A list filtered by age, income or children reaches them anywhere in the city without paying for every home in between.
- New movers every month, on top of either one.
A year of dental mailings in Poway
| When | Who gets it | What the card says |
|---|---|---|
| Every month | New movers around your office | Welcome to the neighborhood, with your new patient offer, the insurance you take and your hours |
| January to February | The neighborhoods closest to your office | New year, new dental benefits: book your cleaning and exam |
| March to April | Higher-income neighborhoods | Whitening and cosmetic work before spring weddings, graduations and summer photos |
| July to August | Family neighborhoods | Back-to-school checkups and sealants for kids |
| September | Neighborhoods with many older residents | Implants, dentures and a free consultation |
| October to November | Your own patients, then the nearby neighborhoods | Use your dental benefits before they reset on January 1 |
You don't need every mailing. Most Poway practices start with the monthly new movers card and one neighborhood mailing, then add the others once they see which brings in patients. Our dental direct mail guide has more offer ideas for each one.

What every Poway dental postcard should include
- The dentist or practice name, so it is clear who is offering the service. Dental advertising in California must not be false or misleading.
- "Specialist" only for real specialists. An orthodontist or oral surgeon can say so. A general dentist who offers implants or aligners should describe the service without suggesting a specialty.
- Offers spelled out: what a new patient special includes, who it is for (new patients only, patients without insurance) and when it ends.
- No waived co-pays or deductibles as an offer. That can break dental plan contracts and insurance rules.
- The plans you accept, including Medi-Cal Dental if you take it. For many families it is the first thing they check.
- Where you are in Poway, with a landmark people know, your hours and whether you see children, evenings or Saturdays.
These are general points, not legal advice. Your dental association or a healthcare attorney can confirm the exact wording of your offer, and we adjust any design to match.

Frequently asked questions
How many new movers are there in Poway each month?
The table above shows about how many households move to a new home in 92064 in an average month, from US Census Bureau estimates. It is a good guide to the size of a monthly new movers mailing. The exact count for the area around your office is in our mailing list planner.
Where should a family dentist mail in Poway?
Start with the routes closest to your office, then the family tracts along Pomerado Road and in west and south Poway. Most homes there are families, so EDDM® reaches them at the lowest cost.
Where should I mail implant and denture postcards in Poway?
Old Poway and central Poway, where many original owners of the 1960s and 70s ranch homes still live, and the senior mobile home community. To reach older adults elsewhere in the city, use a mailing list filtered by age.
Poway patients rarely switch dentists. Is direct mail worth it?
Yes, if you mail at the right moments: when people move in, when their children are ready for braces, and when they need a service their dentist doesn't offer, such as implants. A monthly new movers card plus a few well-timed neighborhood mailings each year works better here than one large drop.
Do you serve Poway?
Yes. Our print shop is in San Marcos, and we print and mail for dental practices across San Diego County, including Poway. We take EDDM® mailings to the Post Offices that deliver your routes.
