Dental direct mail in Rancho Bernardo:
a new patient plan for dentists
By Best Direct Mail, San Marcos · Numbers from USPS and the US Census Bureau
Rancho Bernardo was planned as a town of its own in the 1960s, with golf courses, a business park along the I-15 and some of the largest 55+ communities in the county. Many residents have lived here for decades, and many are retired. West of the freeway, Westwood and the newer streets of 4S Ranch and Del Sur are full of families with children, and the business park brings in people who work here every day.
That gives a dentist here two very different jobs: winning older patients who need implants, dentures and crowns, and becoming the family practice for the households moving in. Below we start with the public numbers for each ZIP Code, including how many new movers arrive in an average month, then go neighborhood by neighborhood: who lives there, which services fit and how to mail them. After that come a new movers plan, a year of mailings and what every dental postcard in California should include.

Rancho Bernardo by ZIP Code
| ZIP Code | Homes (routes) | Households with children | Median household income | New movers a month (average) | Residents 65 or older |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 92127 West Rancho Bernardo and Westwood, plus 4S Ranch and Del Sur | 17,658 (27) | 46% | $195,520 | about 140 | 14% |
| 92128 Most of Rancho Bernardo, including Seven Oaks, Oaks North, Bernardo Heights and the original golf course streets | 21,666 (38) | 26% | $131,077 | about 261 | 24% |
What the columns tell you:
- Households with children: where a family practice, children's checkups and back-to-school cards will do best.
- Median household income: higher incomes point to cosmetic work, aligners and implants. Lower incomes point to clear prices, payment plans and the insurance you take.
- New movers a month: about how many households move to a new home in the ZIP Code in an average month. This is the size of your monthly new movers mailing.
- Residents 65 or older: where implant, denture and consultation cards belong.
These figures cover whole ZIP Codes, and single routes inside them can be quite different. Our EDDM® route planner shows income, age, household size and the share of families with children for every route before you choose.
Homes and carrier routes are from the USPS EDDM® route map. Households with children, income, new movers and residents 65 or older are US Census Bureau American Community Survey 5-year estimates for the ZIP Code area. New movers a month is the number of residents who moved into a different home in the past year, turned into households and divided by 12.
New movers: on average about 400 households move to a new home in these ZIP Codes every month. Many of them will be looking for a new dentist.
What a mailing costs: $2,682 for 5,000 homes with our recommended 8.5 × 11 EDDM® postcard, including printing and postage. See our EDDM® prices for other quantities.
What to mail in each neighborhood
Seven Oaks, Oaks North and the 55+ communities (92128)
Seven Oaks, built from the mid-1960s, and Oaks North, on the east side near Pomerado Road, are age-restricted communities with single-story homes, condos, clubhouses and pools. Most residents are retired, and many have seen the same dentist for years. A new practice wins them with care their current dentist may not offer, or with an easier visit, not with a cleaning special.
- What to offer: implants, dentures and denture repairs, crowns, a free consultation, and whether you accept Medicare Advantage dental plans. Gentle care, easy parking and a ground-floor office matter here.
- Timing: September for an implant consultation card, before the holidays and the year-end benefit rush.
- How to mail: EDDM® on the routes that cover each community. Use large, easy-to-read type and a phone number people can call, since many residents here prefer to book by phone.

The golf course streets and Bernardo Heights (92128)
Around the Rancho Bernardo Inn, the first golf course and Bernardo Heights Country Club are single-family neighborhoods that are not age-restricted, built from the 1960s into the 80s on curving streets. Many owners are empty nesters or recently retired, with higher incomes and good dental coverage, and they care about how their smile looks.
- What to offer: whitening, veneers, aligners for adults, crowns and implants, with a free consultation. Before and after photos of your own patients, used with permission, sell these services best.
- Timing: March and April, when people plan for weddings, graduations and summer trips to see the grandchildren.
- How to mail: EDDM® to the routes with the highest incomes in the table above, or a list filtered by income and age if you want to skip the condo routes nearby.

Westwood and the family neighborhoods (92127)
West of the I-15, Westwood opened in 1968 as one of Rancho Bernardo's first family neighborhoods, with its own elementary school, and later tracts filled in around it. Schools are part of the Poway Unified School District, a big reason families move here, so many homes have children at home.
- What to offer: one practice for the whole family, children's checkups and sealants, orthodontic screenings for kids, and aligners or whitening for the parents. Early morning, evening and Saturday appointments matter to working parents.
- Timing: back-to-school checkups in July and August, and "use your benefits before they reset" in October and November.
- How to mail: EDDM® on the single-family routes. Skip the routes along the business park, which are mostly offices and apartments.

4S Ranch and Del Sur (92127)
The 92127 ZIP Code also takes in 4S Ranch and Del Sur, master-planned neighborhoods built from the late 1990s on, with newer homes, parks and schools. Many households are families with young children, often two working parents with dental insurance through work, and people keep moving in as homes change hands.
- What to offer: a family practice with online booking, children seen from their first tooth, and a new patient offer that covers the exam, cleaning and x-rays. Families here compare practices online, so put your reviews and website on the card.
- How to mail: EDDM® on a few tracts close to your office, mailed several times a year rather than the whole ZIP Code once. Add new movers every month, since new families arrive all year.

Condos and apartments near the business park (92127 and 92128)
Along Rancho Bernardo Road, West Bernardo Drive and the business park, condo and apartment communities house younger adults and people who work nearby, many of them in technology and engineering jobs. Some are new to San Diego and still looking for a dentist, and a practice close to the office is easy to fit into a workday.
- What to offer: a simple new patient price, whitening, aligners and online booking. Lunch-hour and early appointments win people who would rather see a dentist near work than near home.
- How to mail: new movers every month rather than whole routes. People move in and out of these complexes often, and the ones who just arrived are the ones choosing a dentist.

New movers in Rancho Bernardo: a monthly mailing
Moving is one of the main reasons people change dentists. In Rancho Bernardo that happens every month: families buying in 4S Ranch and Del Sur, people starting jobs in the business park, and retirees moving into a smaller home in one of the 55+ communities. The table above shows about how many households move to a new home in each ZIP Code in an average month.
- Choose the area: the new movers within a few miles of your office, usually Rancho Bernardo plus the nearest parts of Poway, Carmel Mountain Ranch and Escondido.
- Mail every month: each card reaches people within their first weeks in a new home, while they are still choosing.
- Make it a welcome: "Welcome to Rancho Bernardo" with your new patient offer, the insurance you take and how to book.

EDDM® or a mailing list in Rancho Bernardo?
It depends on how many of the homes on a route could become your patients:
- EDDM® for the neighborhoods around your office. Almost every household needs a dentist, so for a general or family practice most homes nearby are possible patients. EDDM® reaches them all at the lowest cost per card, and it works well in the 55+ communities, where whole routes reach the residents you want.
- A mailing list for a narrower service. Implants, cosmetic work or orthodontics fit only some households. A list filtered by age, income or children reaches them across both ZIP Codes without paying for every home in between.
- New movers every month, on top of either one.
A year of dental mailings in Rancho Bernardo
| When | Who gets it | What the card says |
|---|---|---|
| Every month | New movers around your office | Welcome to the neighborhood, with your new patient offer, the insurance you take and your hours |
| January to February | The neighborhoods closest to your office | New year, new dental benefits: book your cleaning and exam |
| March to April | Higher-income neighborhoods | Whitening and cosmetic work before spring weddings, graduations and summer photos |
| July to August | Family neighborhoods | Back-to-school checkups and sealants for kids |
| September | Neighborhoods with many older residents | Implants, dentures and a free consultation |
| October to November | Your own patients, then the nearby neighborhoods | Use your dental benefits before they reset on January 1 |
You don't need every mailing. Most Rancho Bernardo practices start with the monthly new movers card and one neighborhood mailing, then add the others once they see which brings in patients. Our dental direct mail guide has more offer ideas for each one.

What every Rancho Bernardo dental postcard should include
- The dentist or practice name, so it is clear who is offering the service. Dental advertising in California must not be false or misleading.
- "Specialist" only for real specialists. An orthodontist or oral surgeon can say so. A general dentist who offers implants or aligners should describe the service without suggesting a specialty.
- Offers spelled out: what a new patient special includes, who it is for (new patients only, patients without insurance) and when it ends.
- No waived co-pays or deductibles as an offer. That can break dental plan contracts and insurance rules.
- The plans you accept, including Medi-Cal Dental if you take it. For many families it is the first thing they check.
- Where you are in Rancho Bernardo, with a landmark people know, your hours and whether you see children, evenings or Saturdays.
These are general points, not legal advice. Your dental association or a healthcare attorney can confirm the exact wording of your offer, and we adjust any design to match.

Frequently asked questions
How many new movers are there in Rancho Bernardo each month?
The table above shows about how many households move to a new home in each Rancho Bernardo ZIP Code in an average month, from US Census Bureau estimates. It is a good guide to the size of a monthly new movers mailing. The exact count for the area around your office is in our mailing list planner.
Where should a family dentist mail in Rancho Bernardo?
Start with the routes closest to your office, then the family neighborhoods in 92127: Westwood west of the I-15, 4S Ranch and Del Sur. The table shows which ZIP Code has more households with children. Most 92128 routes east of the freeway are older residents, so a family card there reaches fewer families.
Where should I mail implant and denture postcards in Rancho Bernardo?
Seven Oaks, Oaks North and the other 55+ communities in 92128 are the easiest to reach by EDDM®, since nearly every home there is an older resident. To reach older adults on the golf course streets and elsewhere, use a mailing list filtered by age.
Should a Rancho Bernardo dentist mail 4S Ranch and Del Sur too?
Usually yes. They share the 92127 ZIP Code with west Rancho Bernardo and are a short drive from most offices along the I-15. They are newer, family neighborhoods where people keep moving in, so a family card and a monthly new movers card both fit.
Do you serve Rancho Bernardo?
