Dental direct mail in Oceanside:
a new patient plan for dentists
By Best Direct Mail, San Marcos · Numbers from USPS and the US Census Bureau
Oceanside is North County's largest city, and its patients are as varied as its neighborhoods. Military families from Camp Pendleton arrive and leave every year. Large 55-and-over communities such as Ocean Hills and Oceana are full of retirees who need restorative work. Inland tracts like Rancho del Oro and Jeffries Ranch are home to families with children, and new apartments downtown draw young adults to the coast.
No single postcard fits all of them. Below we start with the public numbers for each of Oceanside's four ZIP Codes, including how many new movers arrive in an average month, then go neighborhood by neighborhood: who lives there, which services fit and how to mail them. After that come a new movers plan, a year of mailings, what it costs and what every dental postcard in California should include.

Oceanside by ZIP Code
| ZIP Code | Homes (routes) | Households with children | Median household income | New movers a month (average) | Residents 65 or older |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 92054 Downtown, South Oceanside, Fire Mountain and Loma Alta | 17,173 (19) | 23% | $82,408 | about 168 | 15% |
| 92056 Rancho del Oro, Ocean Hills and central Oceanside | 21,382 (29) | 27% | $106,272 | about 216 | 21% |
| 92057 Mission San Luis Rey, Jeffries Ranch and Morro Hills | 20,133 (26) | 35% | $108,814 | about 182 | 16% |
| 92058 North Oceanside along Highway 76, next to Camp Pendleton | 14,483 (15) | 40% | $69,970 | about 347 | 7% |
What the columns tell you:
- Households with children: where a family practice, children's checkups and back-to-school cards will do best.
- Median household income: higher incomes point to cosmetic work, aligners and implants. Lower incomes point to clear prices, payment plans and the insurance you take.
- New movers a month: about how many households move to a new home in the ZIP Code in an average month. This is the size of your monthly new movers mailing.
- Residents 65 or older: where implant, denture and consultation cards belong.
These figures cover whole ZIP Codes, and single routes inside them can be quite different. Our EDDM® route planner shows income, age, household size and the share of families with children for every route before you choose.
Homes and carrier routes are from the USPS EDDM® route map. Households with children, income, new movers and residents 65 or older are US Census Bureau American Community Survey 5-year estimates for the ZIP Code area. New movers a month is the number of residents who moved into a different home in the past year, turned into households and divided by 12.
New movers: on average about 910 households move to a new home in these ZIP Codes every month. Many of them will be looking for a new dentist.
What a mailing costs: $2,682 for 5,000 homes with our recommended 8.5 × 11 EDDM® postcard, including printing and postage. See our EDDM® prices for other quantities.
What to mail in each neighborhood
Ocean Hills and the 55-and-over communities (92056 and 92057)
Ocean Hills Country Club, Oceana, Costa Serena, Peacock Hills and Pilgrim Creek Estates are some of the largest 55-and-over communities in San Diego County, with single-level homes, golf and clubhouses. Residents are retired or nearly so, and many have had the same dentist for years, sometimes one they now have to drive a long way to see.
- What to offer: implants, implant-supported dentures, crowns and repairs, with a free consultation, and whether you accept Medicare Advantage dental plans. Large, easy-to-read type and a phone number answered by a person.
- Timing: September for an implant consultation card, then a benefits reminder in October and November.
- How to mail: EDDM® on the routes inside each community. They are compact and almost every home fits, which makes them some of the most efficient dental mailings in North County.

Rancho del Oro and central Oceanside (92056)
Much of inland Oceanside, around Rancho del Oro, College Boulevard and Oceanside Boulevard, was built in the 1980s and 90s as family tracts, condos and townhomes. Many households have children at home, and the MiraCosta College campus nearby adds young adults to the mix.
- What to offer: one practice for the whole family, children's checkups and sealants, the plans you accept and Saturday hours. A clear new patient price helps families without insurance.
- Timing: back-to-school checkups in July and August.
- How to mail: EDDM® on the routes closest to your office. Compare routes in the EDDM® route planner for 92056 and start with the ones with the most households with children in the table above.

Mission San Luis Rey, Jeffries Ranch and Morro Hills (92057)
Northeast Oceanside runs from established neighborhoods around Mission San Luis Rey to newer tracts such as Jeffries Ranch, and out to the avocado groves and large lots of Morro Hills. The newer tracts have many families with higher incomes, and parents here are a good audience for cosmetic work as well as checkups.
- What to offer: family care plus aligners and whitening for the parents, with a free consultation. Before and after photos of your own patients, used with permission, sell cosmetic work best.
- How to mail: EDDM® in the tracts. In Morro Hills, where homes are far apart, a mailing list filtered by income or age wastes fewer cards.

North Oceanside near Camp Pendleton (92058)
Along Highway 76 and near the base's main gate, North Oceanside has homes, condos and apartments from the 1970s through the 2000s, many of them rented by military families. Families arrive with orders, need a dentist within weeks, and leave a few years later.
- What to offer: a fast first appointment, children seen and a clear new patient offer. Many military family members have the TRICARE Dental Program, so if you are in its network, say so in large type.
- Timing: late spring through summer, when most military families move.
- How to mail: new movers every month, plus EDDM® on the routes near your office. Here the people who just arrived are exactly the ones looking for a dentist.

South Oceanside, Fire Mountain and Loma Alta (92054)
South O has older beach cottages, duplexes and new rebuilds near the water. Inland, Fire Mountain and Loma Alta are mostly mid-century homes on hills and canyons, many owned by the same people for decades. It is a mix of long-time residents, young families and renters.
- What to offer: complete care for every age, from cleanings for the kids to crowns and implants for the long-time owners, and the plans you accept, including Medi-Cal Dental if you take it.
- How to mail: EDDM® to the routes closest to your office. In a mixed area, nearby patients matter more than any single filter.

Downtown, the harbor and the coast (92054)
Downtown and the coast north to the harbor have new apartment and condo buildings, beach condos, older apartments and vacation rentals. Young adults and young professionals are moving into the new buildings, while many condos belong to owners who live somewhere else part of the year.
- What to offer: whitening, aligners and a simple new patient price, with online booking. Young adults respond to a card that looks modern and gets to the point.
- How to mail: new movers every month rather than whole routes. Many homes on the coastal routes are vacation rentals or second homes, while new movers reach the people who actually live here.

New movers in Oceanside: a monthly mailing
Moving is one of the main reasons people change dentists, and Oceanside has a steady flow of new arrivals: military families on new orders, retirees moving into the 55-and-over communities, and families and young adults moving up the coast. The table above shows about how many households move to a new home in each ZIP Code in an average month.
- Choose the area: the new movers within a few miles of your office. Oceanside is large, so most practices pick one or two ZIP Codes, plus the nearest parts of Carlsbad or Vista.
- Mail every month: each card reaches people within their first weeks in a new home, while they are still choosing.
- Make it a welcome: "Welcome to Oceanside" with your new patient offer, the insurance you take, including TRICARE dental if you are in its network, and how to book.
See how many new movers are on file around your office in our mailing list planner, or ask us for a monthly price. We print and mail them for you every month.

EDDM® or a mailing list in Oceanside?
It depends on how many of the homes on a route could become your patients:
- EDDM® for the neighborhoods around your office. Almost every household needs a dentist, so for a general or family practice most homes nearby are possible patients. The 55-and-over communities are a special case: compact routes where nearly every home fits an implant or denture card.
- A mailing list for a narrower service. Implants, cosmetic work or orthodontics fit only some households. A list filtered by age, income or children reaches them across Oceanside's four ZIP Codes without paying for every home in between.
- New movers every month, on top of either one, and especially near Camp Pendleton and downtown, where people move most often.
A year of dental mailings in Oceanside
| When | Who gets it | What the card says |
|---|---|---|
| Every month | New movers around your office | Welcome to the neighborhood, with your new patient offer, the insurance you take and your hours |
| January to February | The neighborhoods closest to your office | New year, new dental benefits: book your cleaning and exam |
| March to April | Higher-income neighborhoods | Whitening and cosmetic work before spring weddings, graduations and summer photos |
| July to August | Family neighborhoods | Back-to-school checkups and sealants for kids |
| September | Neighborhoods with many older residents | Implants, dentures and a free consultation |
| October to November | Your own patients, then the nearby neighborhoods | Use your dental benefits before they reset on January 1 |
You don't need every mailing. Most Oceanside practices start with the monthly new movers card and one neighborhood mailing, then add the others once they see which brings in patients. Our dental direct mail guide has more offer ideas for each one.

What every Oceanside dental postcard should include
- The dentist or practice name, so it is clear who is offering the service. Dental advertising in California must not be false or misleading.
- "Specialist" only for real specialists. An orthodontist or oral surgeon can say so. A general dentist who offers implants or aligners should describe the service without suggesting a specialty.
- Offers spelled out: what a new patient special includes, who it is for (new patients only, patients without insurance) and when it ends.
- No waived co-pays or deductibles as an offer. That can break dental plan contracts and insurance rules.
- The plans you accept, including Medi-Cal Dental if you take it. For many families it is the first thing they check.
- Where you are in Oceanside, with a landmark people know, your hours and whether you see children, evenings or Saturdays.
These are general points, not legal advice. Your dental association or a healthcare attorney can confirm the exact wording of your offer, and we adjust any design to match.

Frequently asked questions
How many new movers are there in Oceanside each month?
The table above shows about how many households move to a new home in each Oceanside ZIP Code in an average month, from US Census Bureau estimates. It is a good guide to the size of a monthly new movers mailing. The exact count for the area around your office is in our mailing list planner.
Where should a family dentist mail in Oceanside?
Start with the routes closest to your office, then the family neighborhoods in the table: the ZIP Codes with the most households with children. Rancho del Oro and the tracts of central Oceanside are the easiest to reach by EDDM®.
Where should I mail implant and denture postcards in Oceanside?
Ocean Hills, Oceana and the other 55-and-over communities. Their routes are compact and most residents are retired, so EDDM® reaches them at a low cost. To reach older adults elsewhere in the city, use a mailing list filtered by age.
How do I reach military families near Camp Pendleton?
Mail new movers every month, since military families need a dentist soon after they arrive, and add EDDM® on the North Oceanside routes near your office. If you are in the network for the TRICARE Dental Program, put it on the card in large type.
Do you serve Oceanside?
Yes. Our print shop is in San Marcos, a short drive from Oceanside, and we print and mail for dental practices across San Diego County. We take EDDM® mailings to the Post Offices that deliver your routes.
